The stripes of the Cheshire Cat by CoyoteCanine The stripes of the Cheshire Cat by CoyoteCanine
Remember me saying I might do the whole wonderland cast in this way: [link] ? Well, I decided to do just that =D

First of all: Cheshire :icony-u-noplz: :iconsaysplz: Y U NO have a definitive gender?!?!?!
I so wanted to stop drawing androgyn characters!!! But I failed miserably! FAILED! :iconcryforeverplz:

But oh well whatever nevermind =D I promise the other wonderland characters will be better defined, gender-wise that is. Have to learn how to draw the manly men after all!!! :iconwhatdaplz:
As for Cheshire here, just see it as a girl or boy or whatever you like better. Actually what would you like better? If it was a feminine male or a boyish female? Tell me, tell me x3

I'm trying to draw all wonderland characters with an unusual twist. I don't want to depict them in their usual role in wonderland or in a twisted version of wonderland (the way McGee did), but as more or less normal people, whos deseases, addictions, mental illnesses, ticks, states of minds and many more actually FORCE them into the role of those mad residents of wonderland. They were, never meant to be, but rather became the role they play now.

In Cheshires case, it's subjected to the delusion that it'll one day disappear into thin air. Physically, it imagines that one day it'll simply unravel along it's scars like a ball of yarn. Mentally it's losing it's "self".

Next is probably the March Hare so stay tuned =D

P.s. If you have any suggestions, wishes or ideas of how the other wonderland characters should look like, feel free to share and I might just go along with it :iconmhhmplz:

^^;  I've always liked Cheshire for some reason, and all the ways he(I'd always imagined Cheshire as a he) has been portrayed.  I'm reading a book series based off of Alice in Wonderland by A. G. Howard called Splintered/Unhinged...  ^^' It gives very, ah... 'real' isn't quite the word, but accurate descriptions of how Carroll(?) misinterpreted the characters of Wonderland.  I think it's one of my favorites now-- ^^ You get used to it being typed in purple ink.

That sounds like an awesome book series. I'm definitely gonna check it out, thanks for telling me about it *q*

^^  Of course.  It's cool to see how she reinvented each character, along with the storyline in general.  It's not really a redoing of Alice in Wonderland, or even a continuation--the book itself is mentioned in the story.  Usually I'm not a fan of first person, but it's written really well.

Thanks, I'm happy you like it =D
Well the initial idea of the mental ilnesses was inspired by the song "Alice" by Sisters of Mercy (hence I started with a picture of Alice that's somewhere in my gallery).
The idea of the Cheshire Cat was a kinda instant one, at least the scars. The straight jacket and the pseudo-grin kinda came to me while drawing.
