A Mad Hatters Melting Mind by CoyoteCanine A Mad Hatters Melting Mind by CoyoteCanine
Hello there dear fellas,

now that I am free, I shall draw to my hearts content!
And of course I started with a brand new piece for my project Wonderland.

This time it's the mad hatter (neither the Tweedles nor the Dodo, sry)! He was one hell of a piece of work. I spend hour after hour on the hat alone, I tell you...

Special thanks goes to :iconblaetterklingen: this time for suggesting a mercury moon. I think the result is a little bit to monochromatic for my tatse though, but nonetheless it suites the story of the mad hatter perfectly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Concept:
I'm trying to draw all wonderland characters with an unusual twist. I don't want to depict them in their usual role in wonderland or in a twisted version of wonderland (the way McGee did), but as more or less normal people, whos deseases, addictions, mental illnesses, ticks, states of minds and many more actually FORCE them into the role of those mad residents of wonderland.

The phrase "As Mad as a Hatter" was coined because of the profession. A hatter had to work a lot with mercury, which affected their nervous system. Mercury can function as a neurotoxin, that, in this case, caused tremors, mood swings and aggressive behaviour. All the mercury he came in contact with intoxicated his mind, 'melting' it away and made a disfigured, cranky and bizarre man out of him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Well than, who should I draw next...

Greetingz and Welcomes
Coyote

P.s. If you have any suggestions, wishes or ideas of how the other wonderland characters should look like, feel free to share and I might just go along with it~

Nooooooo fucking nooo, I wrote on a comment for half an hour and accidentally pushed the "back" button and it was all deleted..... T___________T nooooooooooooooooooooo.....

Ooook maybe i can get it together again. First of all, I hope you don't mind that I'm mimicing kind of the art-critic about those wonderland pictures. It's just that I really love the idea, and since I was attending your first brainstormings and stuff, I'm always really excited about the results. Always when you post one I really like to take my time and think about what effect it has on me.

Now, it really turned out to be somewhat very monochromatic which kind of sucks out some of the energy this picture could potentially have. But this is how mercury simply is like (I didn't recognise it until I read the description, though). Maybe something like a twisted or foggy frame would have done the job for the picture, something that narrows the sight of the viewer like a tunnel view... in my imagination this would add some dynamics. However, I don't expect you to change anything, since this is about the character concept, and this turned out to be the hell of a good job you did!
I know how challenging the Mad Hatter was to you, so I'm even more proud of your outcome. The details simply give me the creeps and the longer you look at those disintegrating skinny bodyparts, the more nauseaus you get. And then you might realize the slight mechanical touch on his limbs, almost not noticeable, which is really cool. You really got the hang of drawing bones and bony stuff, it's amazng. And also the design of the outfit is really cool. Could be on the cover of a manga!^^
Overall: It really moves something deep in your guts. Really good!

Nun mach schon! x3
